Fourth Quarter Newsletter 2003

Yes, it is coming up to that time of year again! Our 2003 Tax Preparation Forms will soon be available on-line at www.adminpowerinc.com. Print copies or just use the data as a guideline. If you would like us to do a preview of your taxes and help you make any year-end decisions, please get your estimated income and expense information soon sent to us as soon as possible.

For many of us, it has been a tough year. I urge you to take the time needed to gather your income and expense information early so we can put your tax return together accurately and quickly. NOW is the time to start that task and take the time to find every deduction possible!

Important Note:

In order to meet the filing deadlines, quarterly clients will need to provide 4th quarter information to us by
January 6, 2004.

Annual clients requiring W-2 or 1099 Forms need to have all of their 2003 business information to us by
January 16, 2004.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Business travel expense is deductible as long as the purpose of the trip was primarily for business. If you take a vacation and make some business contacts as a side activity, then only the expenses directly related to that lunch, meeting or whatever are deductible.
  • Meals and entertainment are 50% deductible if strictly business related and good records are kept of the date, place, purpose and persons involved.
  • The auto mileage rate for 2003 is $.36 per mile. Be sure you have good records of your business miles for the year. Also remember you may use the mileage rate OR actual costs but no “mix and match” is allowed.
  • Filing an extension changes the date your tax return is due but it DOES NOT change the date your tax payments are due. Interest and pentalties are charged on amounts unpaid as of April 15th.
